The Calgary Public Library is expanding its digital offerings with free streaming and music downloads to its membership.
The library has joined the Library Ideas network offering access to some seven million songs on 28,000 labels, including Sony Music Canada’s catalogue.
Card holders are allowed to download three Freegal Music tracks each month and stream three hours of music per day. Libraries underwrite the purchase of the music.
A sampling includes albums by Bruce Springsteen, Ray Charles, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Shakira, One Direction and many more.
Last month, the Library launched the digital media platform Hoopla, allowing members to borrow and stream full-length movies, television shows, music and audiobooks.
“We think this will be popular with our patrons and will enhance the service of the library within the broad spectrum of the Calgary community,” says library spokeswoman Anne Marie Fryer.
